Some of the most important work we do is with families.
At Malama Family Recovery Center, we help pregnant and parenting women address substance use issues to ensure the health and well being of mothers and their children.
Malama was founded in the mid-nineties with the introduction of the BabySAFE program, which provides outreach to pregnant women who may be using substances. Women participate in substance use treatment and are able to have healthy births.
Today, Malama is the only residential treatment program on Maui that allows mothers to keep their children with them while in treatment. The supportive, nurturing, home-like environment helps mothers and their children work through trauma that may have lead to substance use, as well as distress children may have experienced in the home.
We continue to do outreach in the community with family events and at activities for wildfire survivors, providing a presence and support for mothers and children.
With the strain of the wildfires, many young children are anxious, confused and may be acting out. Our staff help them work through their feelings and provide resources for parents.
If a mother is feeling like she is turning to substances to cope, we can help her choose the best options for treatment for her and her family.
Our community-based staff and clinical team are experts in their fields. We are grateful for the services they provide, and thanks to your support, they are able to continue this good work.
