We are thrilled to announce our partnership with The Upswing Fund for Adolescent Mental Health.
With the changes in our schools over the past year, it’s been harder than ever to reach young people in need, in particular LGTBQ+ youth and youth of color. The Upswing Fund recognized this trend and made grant funds available to reach these youth better. Maui Youth & Family Services will be utilizing grant funds to provide specialized services for youth who identify as LGBTQ+.
Many thanks to the Upswing Fund for recognizing this need and helping MYFS make resources more available for youth in our community.
Agency Spotlight: Malama Family Recovery Center
In April, Aloha House purchased a home in Kahului to be used by partner agency Malama Family Recovery Center as a Sober Living Home for women transitioning from the Therapeutic Living Program.
Bare of all furnishings, realtors Mino McClain and Stephanie Malcolm stepped in to help, along with their colleagues at Island Sotheby’s International Realty. They garnered donations and volunteers and used their professional styling skills to furnish and decorate the home completely. Read the Maui News story for details.
Meet Jack, an ‘Ulu Donor
I want to share a story from one of our monthly donors. Like the ‘ulu tree, monthly ‘Ulu Donors provide regular sustenance to our organization, ensuring we are here when clients need us.
Jack says:
“I am proud to support Aloha House, financially through recurring monthly donations, as well as through word-of-mouth by raising community awareness.
“I believe in their work because I have witnessed it first-hand. Even through the COVID pandemic, this talented group of HEROES continues to offer unique, life-saving support to our brothers and sisters, friends and family in need. Health care resources on the neighbor islands are already so strained, with mental health/addiction needs especially acute.
My brother is a graduate of this program; we are so thankful for the resources and support he received in their care. Aloha House helped him rediscover his purpose with a new chance at life.
I’d like to encourage my fellow friends and colleagues to be part of this inspiring process as a recurring donor; the monthly contribution provides stable financial support so that Aloha House can continue to do their life-saving work, providing more new chances at life, one community member at a time.”
