Aloha,
When a woman walks in to Malama Family Recovery Center seeking substance use treatment, she may be carrying with her a past that includes complex trauma, domestic violence, sex trafficking, lack of family support, and judicial involvement. Working through the consequences of these issues while seeking treatment can be a heavy load.
The good news is, at Malama our staff are well prepared to help pregnant and parenting women with the many challenges they face.
Participants receive wrap-around services that support them at every step of their recovery journey. This includes a thorough assessment of their needs and those of any children they have, individualized treatment plans to address their substance use disorder, safe, supportive housing, parenting classes, child care, outpatient treatment, and structured step-down programs that continue to support women and their children as they gain independence.
Malama is also the only program in Maui County where women can enter treatment and bring their children with them, providing multiple benefits for the entire family.
Having their children with them is motivating, and reinforces clients’ commitment to treatment. They know their own success will also help improve their children’s lives.
This comprehensive, long-term care makes Malama Family Recovery Center one of the most effective substance use treatment programs on Maui.
The staff’s ability to anticipate and address the complex needs of clients reduces barriers to care, and helps keep them in treatment for as long as they need it.
