Aloha,

When we look at behavioral health for youth, we know that treatment, intervention and prevention services are all necessary to provide a continuum of care and support. Maui Youth & Family Services works in all three areas. Our Adolescent Treatment Services Program, places substance use counselors in Maui’s middle and high schools, to provide free, confidential treatment.  Residential services programs provide a safe home for youth who have no family support, and might otherwise be homeless. Project Venture, our culturally-based prevention program, works with middle school students to engage them with community organizations and activities,  while providing prevention education. 

Some of the most important work we can do is to support our youth during times of crisis. Gabby, a Lahainaluna High School student, shares the impact the program had on her. 

“Attending another school did in fact make my grades go down, trying to juggle a new atmosphere and being put in classes I never got to choose was difficult. With all of that being said, my home life was now different because I had to move to Maui Lani, it felt off looking at an entire neighborhood and not knowing every person. During these fires I lost two of my besties in my life which are my doggies.”
