September 6, 2019 – Celebrating Recovery Month
Maui County Mayor Michael P. Victorino declared September Recovery Month in Maui County as he offered a proclamation stating “mental health and substance abuse disorders affect all communities nationwide, but with commitment and support, people with these disorders can achieve healthy lifestyles and lead rewarding lives in recovery.”
Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administrations (SAMHSA) sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover. This year’s theme is Join the Forces of Recovery: Together We Are Stronger. The goal is to honor those who have done the work in recovery as well as those who provide the safe spaces allowing individuals to be able to recover.
The event in the Mayor’s office on September 6th was attended by Aloha House staff, board members, and other interested community members.
