Prevention Services – Project Venture

Project Venture Program

Project Venture is a free, evidence and strength-based outdoor experiential program available to middle-school-age youth at Kalama Intermediate and Maui Waena Intermediate that increases self-esteem and encourages positive youth development, healthy communication and quality relationships. By focusing on individuals’ positive attributes and providing young people with the tools, knowledge and positive experiences needed to make healthy choices, we can reduce the risk of drug and alcohol use, as well as other risky behaviors, among our youth. Through adventure-based learning and engagement with family, community and nature, young people learn how to be productive members of society.

Our staff of dedicated and quality Prevention Specialists have several years’ experience working with youth. They are trained to implement Project Venture curriculum and frequently participate in continuing education so they can provide young people with the best experience possible.

Project Venture is unique from other youth prevention programs in that it provides:

  • Positive youth development
  • Engagement with nature
  • Experiential activities
  • Connection to community and service (regular community service projects)
  • Skill development for personal growth
  • Culturally relevant activities and teachings

How the Program Works

Our staff meet with youth for weekly activities. After being picked up from school, participants eat a snack and have time to do their homework before heading out for a fun and positive activity that connects with one or more of the program’s six essential elements.

Students at participating schools can enroll at any time. Current schools are Kalama , `Iao Intermediate,  and Maui Waena Intermediate.  Space is limited though! For more information or to find out how you, your child or someone you know can sign up, call 808-579-8414, ext. 8201.
