MBHR hosts supportive events for wildfire survivors

Youth from Maui Youth & Family Services got to participate in a fun shopping event sponsored by Ledcor Maui at the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center.

Makana no nā Keiki

Ledcor Maui reached out to its community partners, vendors and clients to garner support for their second annual Makana no nā Keiki fundraiser. Funds raised were awarded to three Maui youth-serving organizations, in the form of gift cards to locally-owned stores for the kids, and cash given to the agencies to pay for program expenses. The three grantees were Maui Youth & Family Services, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, and Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui.

“Ledcor Maui’s fundraiser provides the kids and young adults at Maui Youth & Family Services with fun things they normally wouldn’t be able to purchase, and also gives them an opportunity to exercise their generosity as they buy gifts for their family members or children. The gift cards allow them to do this in a dignified and respectful manner. This event is fun, exciting, and the highlight of their year,” said Chelene Arnold, Program Director, MYFS Prevention, Intervention, and Residential Services.

This year, participants in Maui Youth & Family Services’ Project Venture prevention program, adolescent treatment program, and residential programs all took part in the event.

Generous Corporate and Community Support

A total of $65,000 was raised by local businesses and donations from Wailea residents, and a corporate donation of $40,000 brought the total gift to $105,000. Read more details about the donors and participants in Maui Now.
