Fall 2023 Newsletter
Aloha,
The Lahaina and Kula fire disasters have impacted our community in ways we could never have imagined.
In the days immediately following the fires, our outreach and counseling staff were at shelters and gathering places in the community, working with youth and adults who needed someone to talk to.
As days turned to weeks, fire survivors told us they needed guidance and support as they worked through multiple systems to get assistance.
Today, we are planning for long-term care and services.
With disaster relief, once immediate needs like food and shelter are met, there is a lingering need for mental health care, and sometimes substance use treatment.
Our Commitment
With just one month as CEO under my belt, the fires had me set aside plans for our organization’s immediate future. But our commitment to providing behavioral healthcare hasn’t changed. We remain dedicated to ensuring everyone has the help they need to achieve and maintain a foundation for lasting recovery and well-being.
We know now that the needs will be greater, and we’re looking at ways to meet these needs, both today and over the next several years. Our goal is to help our community address this collective trauma and reduce the potential hazards of long-term mental health or substance use issues.
I hope you stay with us as partners, donors, and advocates as we do this important work.
