Prevention & Support Services for Youth

School workshops and after-school activities for youth in grades 6-8 that give young people a chance to develop peer support from friendships made in a positive environment. This helps them stay on track and reduces the likelihood that they will later engage in dangerous and unhealthy activities.  Examples of after-school activities are journal-writing, beach clean-ups, community-service projects and trips to museums, the aquarium, zip lining, and stand-up paddling.

This program at Malama Family Recovery Center provides a structured, supportive, clean and sober living environment for women and their children (up to age 5, with exceptions made as needed). We help women in recovery establish a strong foundation for sober living and support in the community.

Staff is present 24/7 to provide support. The Early Learning Center, which provides free childcare and early childhood learning and development services, is located within the Therapeutic Living Program facility.

Individuals who have recently completed substance abuse treatment programs need step-down services prior to re-entering the community in order to maintain sobriety. Most still need to address medical, emotional, financial and employment challenges, and during this crucial time in their recovery, are at high risk for relapse. On Maui there are also limited affordable housing options, particularly for those in recovery. Our Sober Living Program addresses these issues by providing a safe, affordable and substance-free living environment for women and children. Women are able to solidify gains made in residential treatment and generate healthy and sober support groups in the community.

Clients are expected to be in outpatient treatment, 12 Steps groups or an equivalent. Women can have one or two young children living with them and can utilize the childcare and childhood learning services.

Services include individual and group therapy as well as substance abuse treatment and counseling, education classes, relapse prevention, stress/trauma workshops and other case management services offered on an outpatient basis for women at our Therapeutic Living Program facility. Staff can provide transportation to and from our facility for those who need it and clients can utilize the childcare and childhood learning services available at the Therapeutic Living Program facility.

Malama Family Recovery Center’s BabySAFE program provides treatment, support and case management to pregnant and parenting women. To get help, please call the general Malama phone number, 808-877-7117, and ask to speak to our BabySAFE Program Coordinator, Megan Morrow
