August 8, 2016 — Malama Presents “Big Waves, Big Dreams” at Epic ‘Jaws House’

Malama_BigWaves_BigDreams_Logo_V4_1Malama Family Recovery Center presents “Big Waves, Big Dreams” on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 4-8pm — a private unveiling of artists’ creations inspired by the ‘Big Waves, Big Dreams’ theme at the epic ‘Jaws House’ property formerly owned by famed waterman and big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton in Haiku-Pauwela.

Attendees will soak in the lush tropical views, jam to live music, dine on delectable cuisine and see which artist’s entry wins the top prize, all while supporting Maui nonprofit Malama Family Recovery Center (Malama Na Makua A Keiki), which provides caring, holistic substance abuse treatment to women and children so families can live safe, independent and healthy lives.

The art contest is open to all Maui residents and submissions will reflect the artist’s 2D or 3D personal interpretation of the ‘Big Waves, Big Dreams’ theme. Jewelry submissions are also welcome.

Malama is Maui’s only women-specific substance abuse/addiction treatment center and the only place on the island where young children can live with their mothers in therapeutic and sober living settings. “This event will support our Early Learning Center, which provides free childcare, developmental screenings and parenting training, as well as our BabySAFE Program, which ensures at-risk pregnant women can access treatment, prenatal care and case management so they can give birth to healthy babies,” said Dr. Lisa Ponichtera, Malama’s Clinical Director.
